California names six $1 million Money Mania winners, and only two top prizes are left

The California Lottery on Friday named six more players who won the $1 million top prize on its $10 $1,000,000 Money Mania scratcher, three of them from stores in Los Angeles County.

The winners and the stores that sold their tickets, as released by the lottery, are listed below.
- Sergio Flores, Johnnie's Market, 2017 North Eastern Avenue, Los Angeles
- Hilario Canilao, Seafood City Supermarket, 131 West Carson Street, Carson
- Sergio Oregel, G&M Oil, 989 North Garey Avenue, Pomona
- Harwinder Singh, El Dorado Food Mart, 2320 North El Dorado Street, Stockton
- Daniel Barajas Gutierrez, Azusa Market, 8060 West Azusa Road, Dos Palos
- Scott Emerson, Imperial Liquor, 3106 East 16th Street, National City
The lottery printed 13 of the $1 million prizes, and its game page showed just 2 left as of Saturday morning. Winning one was a 1 in 1,950,462 shot per ticket, which puts the full run at about 25.4 million tickets. Around a fifth of them are still in circulation, judging by how many small prizes remain, so a ticket bought today has closer to a 1 in 2.6 million chance at one of the last two.
Money Mania offers up to 20 chances to win on a ticket, with multipliers from 2X to 50X. Its overall odds are 1 in 3.42, but that counts a free replacement ticket as a win, and 1 in 25 tickets pays one. Counting cash prizes only, the odds are 1 in 3.96, and the game returns 70.3% of sales in cash, or 74.3% if each free ticket is valued at $10. It rates 44.6 on our ValueScore™, ninth of 11 active $10 California games, largely because so few top prizes remain.
The six winners will not owe state tax on their prizes, since California does not tax its own lottery winnings. Federal withholding of 24% takes $240,000 off each check at the time of the claim. Our look at California's September launches covers the newest games in the state.
