A Macomb County woman checked the prizes remaining page, then won $1 million on 50X

A 67-year-old Macomb County woman won $1 million on the Michigan Lottery's $10 50X instant game minutes after checking the lottery's website to see whether any top prizes were left, the Michigan Lottery said. She bought a few 50X tickets at Diamond Dot Market, 38500 Hayes Road in Clinton Township, a party store she had specifically wanted to buy from. A day earlier she had turned down her husband's offer to buy tickets at another store, she told the lottery.

At home, she looked up 50X on the lottery's prizes remaining page and told her husband two of the $1 million prizes were still unclaimed. He doubted it. Then she scratched one of them. “I told you they were out there!” she said she told him as she slid the ticket across. She chose to stay anonymous and took a lump sum of about $693,000 instead of annuity payments on the full $1 million. She plans to pay off a grandchild's student loans, buy a new truck, and take a vacation, the lottery said.

The winning ticket, which the lottery published, shows 23 as the first of the five winning numbers and again as the very first of her numbers, with $1MIL printed beneath it.
50X launched in February 2025 with three $1 million top prizes in a run of about 8.2 million tickets, roughly 1 in 2.7 million per ticket at launch. Her win leaves one, and Michigan Lottery data shows about 79% of tickets sold, so a ticket bought now has about a 1 in 1.8 million chance at the last one, better than at launch. Three of 26 prizes of $10,000 remain too. Players have won more than $48 million on the game so far, according to the lottery. It returns 76.0% of sales as prizes and rates 41.9 on our ValueScore™, 25th of the state's 27 active $10 games, with most of its tickets already sold.
Checking before buying is the habit behind other wins too, like a couple in Maryland who tracked remaining top prizes and won $500,000. Every Michigan game's remaining prizes are on our Michigan top prizes remaining page, and our look at when to buy a scratch-off explains why the prize count matters more than a game's age. The Detroit Free Press also reported the win.
