A single lottery ticket sold in Minnesota just made state history. The ticket matched all the numbers in Saturday's Lotto America drawing to win a $34.12 million annuitized jackpot, or about $15.15 million taken as a lump sum, the largest Lotto America jackpot ever won in the state.
The winning ticket was sold at a Holiday gas station in Coon Rapids. Under Minnesota rules the store earns a $10,000 bonus just for selling it.
"This is an exciting and historic moment for Minnesota Lottery players," Adam Prock, executive director of the Minnesota State Lottery, said in a statement. "A jackpot win of this magnitude creates excitement across the state and highlights the fun that comes with playing the Lottery. We're thrilled to celebrate this incredible win while continuing to generate proceeds that benefit Minnesotans."
The winner has not come forward yet
As of the announcement, the ticket holder had not yet stepped up to claim the prize. Winners in Minnesota have one year from the date of the drawing to come forward, and any prize over $50,000 must be claimed in person at the Minnesota State Lottery offices in Roseville.
What Lotto America is
Lotto America is one of three multi-state draw games Minnesota takes part in, alongside Powerball and Mega Millions. The state lottery also runs three games of its own: Pick 3, Gopher 5 and North 5.
Those big multi-state draws grab the headlines, but they are not the only way to play in the state. If you prefer a ticket you can check on the spot, current Minnesota scratch-offs, with prices, odds, and top prizes still unclaimed, are on our Minnesota page.
