A Brooklyn Woman Won $3 Million on a Scratch-Off Bought at a Newsstand

A Brooklyn newsstand just sold a $3 million winner. Christiane Butcher of Brooklyn has claimed a $3 million top prize on the New York Lottery's $10 100Xtra scratch-off game.
She took the prize as a lump sum of $1,242,851 after required withholdings, a good reminder of how much a headline number shrinks once the cash option and taxes are figured in (how lottery winnings are taxed). The winning ticket was bought at Hanson Newsstand at 37 Hanson Place in Brooklyn.

The game still has big prizes left
According to the New York Lottery, three top prizes remain available on 100Xtra, which means the game still has its biggest $3,000,000 prizes still in play. Players can check the status of any New York scratch-off through the Game Report at nylottery.ny.gov. Tracking exactly that, which games still have their top prizes, is the whole idea behind our most unclaimed top prizes list.
Where the money goes
New York scratch-offs are a serious business. New York Lottery scratch-off games generated $4,339,794,048 in total sales during fiscal year 2024-2025. Over the same period, school districts across the five boroughs received $1,427,185,199 in Lottery Aid to Education. So even the tickets that do not win are funding something back home.
Congratulations to the winner, and to a Brooklyn newsstand having a very good week. If you play in the state, current New York scratch-offs, and which ones still have their top prizes, are on our New York page.
