A player in the United Kingdom has won $1 million on Powerball, the first time a UK ticket has taken a prize at that level. The win came in the drawing on Monday, August 31, from matching the five white balls without the red Powerball.
The winning numbers were 11, 17, 25, 37 and 49, with a Powerball of 10. Two tickets matched the five white balls, and the other was sold in New York. Both didn't have the power play add on and were worth $1,000,000.
Powerball became available in Great Britain only a few weeks ago, through the National Lottery under its operator Allwyn, so players there now compete for the same jackpot prize as players in the United States. This is the first Match 5 prize the game has produced in the UK.
The jackpot stood at $131 million for the Monday drawing and rolled over with no winner.
| Tier | Winners | Prize |
|---|---|---|
| Match 5 + Powerball | 0 | Jackpot |
| Match 5 | 2 (New York, UK) | $1,000,000 |
| Match 4 + Powerball | 9 | $50,000 |
| Match 4 | 217 | $100 |
| Match 3 + Powerball | 521 | $100 |
Three of the nine Match 4 plus Powerball tickets had Power Play, doubling those to $100,000. Below the top tiers the draw produced 182,495 tickets matching the Powerball alone, each paying $4.
The jackpot for Wednesday, September 2's Powerball drawing is $146 million. Full results and the current jackpot are on our Powerball page.
