A $6.14 million Lotto America jackpot ticket was sold at a Des Moines QuikTrip

A Lotto America ticket sold at the QuikTrip at 901 SW 63rd Street in Des Moines won the game's $6.14 million jackpot in the Saturday, October 3 drawing, the Iowa Lottery said. The ticket matched all six numbers, 12, 13, 21, 40, 49, and Star Ball 2. As of this writing on Wednesday, October 8, nobody had come forward to claim it, KCCI reported.
The prize pays $6.14 million as an annuity or about $2.53 million as a lump sum. The ticket expires April 1, 2027, and prizes above $250,000 have to be claimed in person at Iowa Lottery headquarters in Clive. The store will get a $5,000 bonus for selling it. Iowa Lottery Director Steve Waymire noted in the lottery's release that Iowa was a founding member of the original Lotto America.
It is the third Lotto America jackpot won in Iowa since the game began, WHO 13 reported. The others went to a Davenport man for $4.38 million in May 2018 and a Dubuque man for $40.03 million in April 2023, which the station called the game's largest jackpot ever.
This jackpot had been building since July 18, when a ticket in Minnesota won $34.12 million. It restarted at $2 million on July 20 and rolled through 33 drawings before the Des Moines ticket hit. Our records since February 2025 cover 256 drawings, and this is only the fourth jackpot in them. The others were $37.37 million in June 2025, $4.01 million in August 2025, and the Minnesota win. After the Iowa win, the jackpot reset to $2 million.
Lotto America players pick five numbers from 1 to 52 and a Star Ball from 1 to 10, so the odds of hitting the jackpot are 1 in 25,989,600. That is long, but far shorter than Powerball's 1 in 292.2 million. The game is sold by 13 lotteries, while Powerball is sold in 48 jurisdictions, KCCI noted. Iowa's largest lottery prize remains the $343.9 million Powerball jackpot won by Lerynne West of Redfield in 2018.
