Kenneth Dougherty of Pittsfield has claimed the third and final $1 million top prize on the Massachusetts State Lottery's $1,000,000 Bonus Wins, a $5 scratch ticket.

He bought the ticket at Palmers Variety, 221 Elm St. in Pittsfield. Dougherty chose the cash option, a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes, and told the lottery he plans to save it. The store gets a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The cash figure is 65% of the prize, the same ratio a Worcester winner got on Decade of Dollars earlier this month.

His win leaves the game without a top prize, though it hasn't left store shelves. $1,000,000 Bonus Wins went on sale in July 2025 with about 10 million tickets, and around 75% of them have sold. That leaves close to 2.5 million tickets in circulation and no $1 million prize among them.

The unclaimed prizes add up to about $8.6 million against roughly $12.4 million in remaining tickets, a return near 69 cents on the dollar. Across its whole run the game paid 78.6%. The top of the table now stops at $5,000, a prize printed at odds of 1 in 72,000.

That drop shows up in our ValueScore™, where the game scores 43.8, 17th of the 26 $5 tickets Massachusetts is selling. $1,000,000 Supreme Winnings leads the state's $5 games at 65.6. Some games end the other way, with a top prize nobody claims, and we tracked how often retired scratch-offs end with one unclaimed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any $1 million prizes left on $1,000,000 Bonus Wins?

No. Kenneth Dougherty of Pittsfield claimed the third and final $1 million top prize in September 2026. The $5 Massachusetts game is still on sale, and its largest remaining prizes are 37 of $5,000.

How much is the cash option on a $1 million Massachusetts scratch ticket?

On $1,000,000 Bonus Wins it was $650,000 before taxes, or 65% of the prize. After 24% federal and 5% Massachusetts withholding, that leaves about $461,500.

What does $1,000,000 Bonus Wins pay back now that the top prizes are gone?

Roughly 69 cents per dollar on the tickets still unsold, by our estimate, down from 78.6% across the full print run. About $8.6 million in prizes remain, spread over roughly 2.5 million tickets.
