Monica Glover of Saint Pauls was scratching a $10 $1,000,000 Bonus Match ticket on Tuesday with her mother next to her when she uncovered the $1 million top prize, the North Carolina Education Lottery said. “We both cried when I won,” she told the lottery. She bought the ticket at Minuteman Food Mart on North Fifth Street in Saint Pauls, in Robeson County.

Glover said her nerves were through the roof. When she claimed the prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh, she could take $50,000 a year for 20 years or a $600,000 lump sum. She took the lump sum and, after required state and federal withholding, went home with $432,063. She plans to buy a house and take her family on vacation.

The game started with five $1 million prizes, one per 1,479,636 tickets, in a run of about 7.4 million. Glover's leaves one. Lottery data shows about 94% of the tickets sold, so the remaining 436,000 or so tickets hold that last top prize, about 1 in 436,000 each, more than three times better than at launch. The game's prizes of $50,000 and $10,000 are all gone, though. It returns 75.1% of sales as prizes and rates 40.0 on our ValueScore™, 15th of North Carolina's 17 active $10 games, since so little is left above $5,000.

Robeson County has received nearly $60 million in state grants from lottery money to help build a new career and technical center, the lottery said. Other recent North Carolina $1 million scratch-off winners include a Wilkes County man who put his prize in a trust for his daughters.
