A Powerball ticket worth $2.26 million was sold in Lakeside, California, as the jackpot climbs to $538 million

A Powerball ticket sold in Lakeside, California, matched all five white balls in the Saturday, October 10 drawing and pays $2,259,918, according to the California Lottery. The ticket was sold at Americo, 12402 Woodside Ave., a gas station and convenience store in the unincorporated community about 20 miles northeast of San Diego. It matched the 5 numbers and missed only the Powerball number.

The winning numbers were 1, 4, 19, 33, and 51, with Powerball 15. No ticket matched all six, so the jackpot for Monday's drawing rose to an estimated $538 million, with a cash option of about $220.6 million. Saturday was the 24th drawing in a row without a jackpot winner.

In the other Powerball states, a Match 5 ticket pays a flat $1 million, or $2 million with Power Play. California pays its non-jackpot prizes on a pari-mutuel basis instead, dividing a share of the state's own sales among the winners at each level, so the Lakeside ticket's value was set by California play and was a big prize because of the fact that it was the only one. The same rule lifted the state's other prizes on Saturday. One California ticket that matched four numbers and the Powerball paid $55,740, against $50,000 elsewhere, and the 59 tickets that matched four white balls paid $472 each, against $100 in other states.

In April, a California Match 5 ticket paying $2,242,838 was sold at a Shell station in Calabasas. Across all states, hundreds of $1 million-plus second prizes have been paid since the start of 2025. California does not tax lottery winnings, though federal withholding applies, and our breakdown of a big Powerball cash option shows how much is left after taxes.
