Two California Scratch-off players have won $1 million on the $10 Neon Jackpot, the California Lottery said Tuesday. David Sandoval Quezada bought a winning ticket at Pioneer Market, 465 S. Brand Blvd. in San Fernando. Cinthia Hernandez bought the other at the Chevron at 22 Rowland Way in Novato.

Neon Jackpot went on sale in June with eight $1 million top prizes in a run of about 16 million tickets, one per 2 million. California Lottery data in our database listed five of the eight as unclaimed on October 14. That count may not include both of these wins yet. About half the tickets have sold. If three remain, a ticket bought now has about a 1 in 2.7 million shot at one. If five remain, it's closer to 1 in 1.6 million. Of the game's 40 prizes of $10,000, 23 are left.

The overall odds are 1 in 3.42, and the game returns 74.2% of sales as prizes, a little under the 75.8% average for California's $10 Scratchers. It rates 60.4 on our ValueScore™, fourth of the state's nine active $10 games. Earlier this fall, six players won $1 million on Money Mania.

The same release told the story of Amos Tillet, who left $20 in Powerball quick picks from the 7-Eleven at 5700 Santa Monica Blvd. in Los Angeles in his car's cup holder for two days. When he finally scanned them, one had won $1,478,686. He had told the clerk he'd be happy with a million, the lottery said. California pays Powerball prizes below the jackpot from its own sales. That is why a California five-number match can pay more than $1 million.
