Most states sell $5, $10 and $20 scratch-offs. After that, the map changes fast

Walk into a store in Texas and you'll find scratch-offs priced from $1 to $100. Do the same in Louisiana and the most expensive scratch-off ticket is $20. Figures cover active US scratch-off games in our database as of the third week of September 2026.
Four prices are close to universal in every state.
| Ticket price | States that sell it | Games on sale |
|---|---|---|
| $1 | 43 | 268 |
| $2 | 44 | 427 |
| $3 | 38 | 209 |
| $5 | 44 | 729 |
| $10 | 44 | 595 |
| $20 | 44 | 345 |
| $25 | 9 | 16 |
| $30 | 37 | 146 |
| $50 | 26 | 80 |
| $100 | 2 | 5 |
$5 is by far the most common price, with 729 games on sale, more than the $1, $2, and $3 categories combined. The bigger break comes above $20. About a third of the states we track do not offer a $30 ticket at all, and $50 tickets are sold in only a little more than half.
Nine different prices in Texas, four in Louisiana
Texas and Oklahoma run the widest range of prices, nine price points each from $1 all the way to $100. Georgia, Maryland, Illinois, Rhode Island, and Tennessee also list nine, stopping at $50.
| State | Price points | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Texas and Oklahoma | 9 | $1 to $100 |
| Georgia, Maryland, Illinois, Rhode Island, Tennessee | 9 | $1 to $50 |
| California | 8 | $1 to $40 |
| New Jersey, New Hampshire, Maine | 8 | $1 to $30 |
| West Virginia | 6 | $1 to $30 |
| Arkansas, South Carolina, Louisiana | 6 | $1 to $20 |
The ceiling matters because payout climbs with price almost everywhere, so the most generous tickets a lottery prints tend to be the ones at the top of its range. A player in a state that stops at $20 has no access to the 79% and 80% payouts that $50 games typically carry. Which states go highest is covered in our look at the most expensive scratch-offs, and the two states with $100 tickets get their own article.
The odd prices that almost nobody sells
A handful of prices exist in one place. Washington, D.C. sells a $4 game. New Mexico sells two $15 games. California sells two $40 games. Nine states sell a $25 ticket, 16 games in total.
Those four price points add up to 21 games across the country. For comparison, there are 729 games at $5 alone.
Current rankings for any state are on our best value list, and what each price tends to return is in payout by price point.
